Introduction

With the essensys softphone app you can make and receive calls from anywhere in the world using your landline telephone number over your mobile 3G, 4G and WiFi.
For instructions on using the app itself please see the Using Your Softphone app article.
For a video tutorial on how to activate a user on the Softphone app, please see the video at the end of this article.

Softphone Requirements

To use the softphone app a user must have a Connect account which must be associated with their extension. Details of how to assign an extension to a Connect account can be found on the User Manager knowledge base article.

Enabling the softphone

Before the client receives their Softphone login details we must follow the below steps once completed the client will receive their login details and then can use the Softphone.

Adding the Softphone Service

The first step is adding the softphone service to the Clients account under the Manage Services menu in Connect.

Associating an Extension to a User

Now the Service has been added you will need to associate an Extension to a User you can do this in the User section and check this guide here.

Activating the Softphone

Once the service and the extension has been associated to a user you can now enable the softphone for individual users by going to Telephone Manager and clicking the Softphone Manager button.

From there you will see a list of all extensions. You can activate the softphone with the left hand toggle then click save to make that change live.

Once you save the changes the following will happen:

  1. An email will be sent to the user associated with the extension which contains the username and password required to login to the softphone. The email will also contain direct links to the App Store to download the softphone app.

  2. If this extension is currently logged into a physical handset, the handset will be logged off momentarily and automatically back on again.

The same process can be used to deactivate the soft phone for a user, once again the handset will be logged off momentarily and automatically back on again.
