Choosing a compatible electric lock

Guidance on optimum electric lock selection for elumo

The elumo Hub has broad compatibility with any wired 12V DC electric lock that draws a maximum of 1.2A when powered via PoE+ and its wet relay. More advanced options are possible using the dry relay for externally powered locks - please consult a skilled installer for recommendations in this case.

It should also be considered that elumo was designed specifically to optimise the meeting room booking & access experience – not enforce physical security. Electric lock selection should therefore be optimised for this use case i.e. low power electric locks with a minimal/low-cost installation if possible.

If in any doubt please consult a locksmith for recommendations specific to your door type and circumstances.

Our recommendations in order of simplest and lowest installation cost are as follows, for locks powered using elumo Hub's wet relay:

  • Low-power fail-safe electric strike (12V DC < 1.2A)
These may be fitted to any door frame and are compatible with an existing standard door handle, controlling access into the room but allowing free access out of the room using the manual handle. No further exit buttons or emergency exit integrations are required which keeps the installation simple and low cost.

  • Low-power solenoid lock (12V DC < 1.2A)
These are an alternative for doors where an electric strike cannot be fitted to the door frame. Access is controlled into the room as normal but free access is allowed out of the room using the manual handle. No further exit buttons or emergency exit integrations are required.

  • Low-power electric magnetic lock (12V DC < 1.2A)
Whilst these low-cost locks are easily retro-fitted to any door, they will also require a request-for-exit button (to unlock and exit the room) and an emergency break-glass button (to exit the room in an emergency). Fire alarm integration may also be required to release the lock in the event of an emergency depending on local building or fire codes.

It is the installer’s responsibility to satisfy all local building code or emergency exit regulations in relation to electric locks.
