View details of the IP addresses and virtual local area networks (VLANs) used for network resources at the occupier's site.

Tip: You can also enable and disable DHCP on the essensys network for the occupier. This is enabled in a typical managed network set up.

View Network Information

Before you begin

  • The occupier whose network information you want to view must be present in the system.

  • The occupier must have a contract with the operator.

  • The occupier must have been assigned at least one service that requires a private VLAN for this page to provide network information. This may be a Public IP or internet service.

Accessing the Network info page

  1. Click Occupiers in the main menu.
The Occupiers page opens. By default, the occupiers that have already been created are visible in this view.

  2. In the first column, click the name of the occupier whose network information you are interested in.
Tip: You can filter the list of occupiers by typing part or all of their name, or by selecting the site that they are present at.

  3. Click the Network info tab.
The Network info page opens. Note: If the occupier is present at more than one site, the network info is for the first site in the list.

  4. To view the network information for this occupier at a different site, select the name of the site you are interested in.

Note: If the main editor does not contain Network Information, this could mean:

  • You need to create a contract for this occupier. All occupiers require a contract.

  • You need to assign an Internet or Public IP service to this occupier.

What next?

  • The meaning of fields seen here are described in the following Network info section.

  • The only action that can be taken from this page is to enable or disable DHCP. For more information, see DHCP.

Network Info

The following fields are displayed in a different sequence to the actual page. The information is grouped by network resource type here to aid understanding.

Field

Description

Public IP network information:

  • Public VLAN

  • Public IP Address

Details of the occupier's public VLAN and IP address at the selected site.

Important: Public IP details are only required if the occupier's network incorporates one or more devices (firewall or router) that require a Public IP address.

  • If both values are 0, the occupier network does not have a device using public IP.

  • If the values are not 0, these fields describe:

    • The Public VLAN tag.

    • The Public IP Address, or first value in the address range where there are 5 IP addresses.

Note: For more information about public IP in essensys platform, see Public IP and Unmanaged Networks.

Private network information:

  • Private VLAN

  • Private IP Address

Details of the occupier's private VLAN and IP address at the selected site.

  • If both values are 0, the occupier does not have devices using a private network.

  • If the values are not 0, these fields describe:

    • The Private VLAN tag.

    • The first value in the Private IP Address range.

Note: The private VLAN is used by the occupier when consuming internet services.

DHCP:

  • <DHCP State>

  • Enabled toggle

The DHCP protocol is used to provide and distribute the IP addresses to devices within the network.

By default, essensys manages DHCP for occupier networks. If the occupier would like to manage DHCP themselves, they can disable DHCP here.

<DHCP State> can be:

  • Enabled - essensys manages DHCP for the occupier at this site (default).

  • Pending - DHCP has been enabled or disabled, but the change is not yet complete in the system.

  • Disabled - the occupier manages their own DHCP at this site.

If you intend to enable or disable DHCP, you should review the knowledge base information in advance of making any change. For more information, see DHCP.

Further information

  • If you have devices in your network that require a Public IP, you should consult the detailed information in Public IP and Unmanaged Networks.

  • It may be correct that you do not have any network info in this view. For example, if your occupier does not have a contract yet, or they do not consume any voice or internet services at the site.
