Introduction
Your Occupiers may choose to bring in their own desk phones to use in their office space. When they do this, they are taking on the responsibility of managing their own phone system and phone numbers.
If the handsets and or numbers are provided by essensys please see the Telephony section of Platform here.
What's the difference?
The numbers and headsets wouldn't be provided by essensys or the essensys Platform. The Occupiers own handsets would also be using their own Private Network(VLAN) and wouldn't be on their own Voice network.
If an Occupier does proceed with their own handsets, essensys cannot provide any support nor have access to the following;
Drops in telephone calls made or received
Access to their telephony system
Call quality issues
Allowing clients own handsets to use the essensys Voice platform
Using essensys Platform numbers with their own handsets or 3rd Party Provider
How to manage Client owned phones
In most cases the Occupiers handsets will work, but you must make sure that any occupiers' own handsets are patched into a LAN Only Switch Port, NOT a Voice/LAN/Internet port within the essensys Platform.
If their handsets require additional changes made, see the FAQs below,
FAQs
When Occupiers first bring in their own handsets essensys gets asked the following questions see the responses below,
SIP ALG unblocked?
Note that SIP ALG isn't enabled on our network and is only enabled on Home Networks.
We need to open some outbound ports on the essensys Firewall?
That's not required all outbound ports are already opened if using the essensys provided local network.
We need to open Inbound ports on the essensys Firewall?
In this case we do not open all Inbound ports on the essensys Firewall so in this case the client would need a Public IP and then setup their own Router/Firewall with their own network, see the guide here to assist.
Ongoing support
There is no ongoing support that essensys can provide to a client owned phone system. If they wish to expand and add more users and handsets, they will need to contact their 3rd Party Voice Provider to arrange this.
If they are expanding into a new office they will need to ensure that they have enough space on their own switch to support the new handsets.
If the Occupier is using a LAN only port all we can make sure is that the Bandwidth and Local network is being provided correctly.
If the Occupier is using a Public IP we can only make sure that the Public IP and Bandwidth is being provided as per the services added.
