Overview
The ARP Table (Address Resolution Protocol Table) is a network diagnostics feature available in the Infrastructure section of the essensys Platform. It provides a near-real-time view of all devices currently connected to a site's network, showing the MAC address, IP address, and — where linked — the user associated with each device.
This tool is designed to help operators troubleshoot network connectivity issues and understand which devices are active on a site at any given moment.
Where to Find It
Navigate to: Spaces → [Select a Site] → ARP tab
The ARP tab is visible in the Site View alongside other infrastructure tabs.
What the ARP Table Shows
Each row in the table represents a device detected on the network. The table displays;
Owner The organisation or occupier the device is associated with. Displays the occupier name if available, otherwise the customer name.
IP Address The IPv4 address assigned to the device.
IP Type The type of IP address (e.g. Public).
MAC Address The unique hardware identifier of the network interface card.
Assigned To The email address/username linked to the device via WiFi data.
Important: The ARP data is near real-time with a 10–15 minute refresh window. It reflects the state of the network but not necessarily the exact current moment.
How to Use the ARP Table
Searching - Use the search bar at the top of the table to filter results. The search matches across all columns — you can search by customer name, IP address, MAC address, or username. Results update automatically as you type.
Sorting - Click any column header to sort the table by that column. Click again to toggle between ascending and descending order. The default sort is by Owner (ascending).
Pagination - When a site has more than 100 connected devices, the table paginates at 100 rows per page. Use the pagination controls at the bottom to navigate between pages.
Truncated Values - Hover over any truncated cell to see its full value in a tooltip.
Common Use Cases
Troubleshooting connectivity issues— Identify whether a device is visible on the network and what IP address it has been assigned.
Verifying user device presence— Confirm that a specific user's device is connected to the site network using their email address.
MAC address lookup— Find the IP currently associated with a known MAC address (or vice versa).
Cross-referencing Public IPs— Active MAC addresses from the ARP table are also used in theIP Addressestab to show an "ONLINE" status for devices with public IP assignments.
Frequently Asked Questions
Why is my device not showing in the ARP table?
The table has a 10–15 minute refresh window. If a device connected very recently, it may not appear yet. If a device has been disconnected, it may still show briefly before being removed from the table.
Why does the "Assigned To" column show blank for some devices?
The assigned-to field is populated via WiFi authentication data. Devices that connected via a method not linked to a user account (e.g. Ethernet, unregistered devices) will not have an email address associated.
Why does "Owner" show a company name rather than a person's name?
The Owner field shows the occupier/person name where available, falling back to the customer/organisation name. If no individual occupier is linked to that MAC address in the system, the customer name is shown instead.
Can I edit or remove entries from the ARP table?
No — the ARP table is read-only. It reflects live network data and cannot be manually modified through the Platform.
The data looks outdated. How do I refresh it?
Reload the page to trigger a fresh API call. The underlying data source updates approximately every 10–15 minutes regardless.
Related Features
IP Addresses tab— Shows public IP subnet assignments for the site. Active devices from the ARP table are highlighted with an "ONLINE" status and can be cross-referenced by MAC address.
